T-shirts and trinkets are incredible affordable and I haven’t found shop owners to be too pushy compared to other ports. There are over 100,000 people living at this municipality which is just off the eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula. The largest city is San Miguel which is right near the cruise ports on the west end of the island.

Capture Instagram-worthy shots while sitting on the high chair at the Three Amigos bar, trying on the giant shoes, or posing with a real-life statue. Nature enthusiasts will find joy in the lush garden at the port, adorned with vibrant flowers and plants. Taxis are readily available at the port for a $10 fare each way to San Miguel. Consider sharing the ride with three other people to split the cost. Previously, the plan for a 4th berth was rejected in June 2016 by local residents following public consultation. The site for the new terminal was in front of Marina Banco Playa (Puerto de Abrigo, island's northern coast).
The island is easy to navigate in a matter of a couple hours if you don’t make too many stops. Many times I’ve had locals on the island help me out or point me in the right direction all while asking for nothing in return. Whatever makes you feel calmer and refueled, be sure to set aside time during your Cozumel vacation to breathe and enjoy where you’re at. You will also find numerous small shops, boutiques and specialty stores located all across Cozumel where you can stop by, meet the locals and find something truly unique.
Get up close and personal with Maya history at San Gervasio, the largest ancient Maya site on Cozumel, which dates back to as early as AD 300. Mexican chefs are experts at taking food to the next level, which is exactly the point of the chile relleno. There are many variants of the dish, though all involve filling a poblano pepper with spiced meat and cheese. In general, the weather is best between December and April — there's little rain, and the temperatures are very comfortable. The wet season starts in May and ends in October, while hurricane season (affecting mostly the Caribbean side) starts in June and runs until November. There are no vaccines required to enter Mexico at Cozumel, but the CDC recommends travelers be up to date on COVID-19 vaccines and boosters, as well as Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Measles.
It goes from 6pm to 9pm, but I still wanted to put it in this list. The submarine will descend 100 feet below the surface and will look through portholes to see amazing marine life, a sunken shipwreck, and even a 400 foot drop-off known as The Wall. You can do this on a catamaran, glass-bottom boat, or even a private charter.

If you want to rent a car, the closest offices are 5 blocks from the cruise ship pier. There’s a reason it’s one of the most visited cruise ports in the world. These archaeological sites are popular with locals and tourists because they bring history to life and are beautiful to see. Because they’re a traveler hot spot, expect some lines during the busy season. Many also charge an admission fee, so have some pesos with you before you go. One of the most visited ports on Caribbean itineraries, Cozumel is a relatively lightly developed island off the coast of Mexico.
Not far from the Museo de Cozumel is the tiny but mighty Burritos Gorditos. Serving burritos, guacamole, quesadillas, and breakfast on the island, this small shop commits to a no-frills, cash only approach. Sit on one of the restaurant’s multicolored chairs while you enjoy what some call the best burritos in Cozumel. Add in Guido’s wine list and seafood specials for a cozy, casual night on the waterfront. This activity is perfect for families and children of all ages looking to spend an unforgettable afternoon with dolphins on your Cozumel cruise. You’ll also have the chance to see manatees and sea lions while you’re there.
The shop is air-conditioned, providing a delightful escape from the heat in Cozumel. While prices may be slightly higher than in San Miguel, the authenticity of the Mayan crafts makes it worthwhile. If you search for a nice beach, one of the most popular ones is Paradise beach, located within a minute driving distance from San Miguel, toward the south of the island. Paradise beach is a famous beach resort featuring a pool area, a restaurant, a bar, a beautiful beach as well as various water sport activities.
Know that the following information is only indicative and prices are subject to change by the company. The idea is well backed up by the cheap flights from the USA and Port Cozumel's lower dockage fees, in comparison to the American ports' fees. In 2007, this number jumped to 2,45 million (23% increase), while Mexico saw a 10% growth (to 6+ million). Port Calica is located approx 5 mi / 8 km south of Playa del Carmen.

The Puerta Maya Terminal and the International Cruise Terminal are very close to each other - the entrances are no more than 1,500 feet (500 meters) apart. Both terminals are around 3 miles south of San Miguel, the main city of Cozumel. As you can see on the map above, there are 3 Cruise Terminals in Cozumel. The terminal in Punta Langosta is right by San Miguel's southern end and only has one pier. Likewise, the International Terminal only has one main pier and a smaller one for tender boats. The International Cruise Terminal also has a plethora of shops and eateries directly in the port.
If you arrive by ship, after docking you’ll encounter a long paved pier leading to the port area. As you walk towards the pier, you’ll be greeted by stunning displays of architectural beauty in vibrant shades of pink, yellow, and off-white. This area is known for its shopping experience, with a wide array of shops, boutiques and restaurants, including globally recognized brands. One must-visit shop at this pier is Los Cincos Soles, offering authentic Mexican wares sourced from all over the country.
One of the best family-friendly all-inclusive resorts in Cozumel, Iberostar Cozumel has a quiet stretch of beach, two large pools, a spa, and a kids' club. It's a great option for travelers who prefer to distance themselves from busy San Miguel and want front-row seats to the best diving on the island. Not many cruisers venture up to the northern part of the islands to see this family-run pearl farm, but you should.
